Question
An eight-month old girl has shown signs of stiffness and mild shaking. she also has not developed speaking skills, she does not use letters in her speech. Her twin brother is more advanced and seems to have learned rudimentary speaking skills. She does crawl and respond to stimuli with smiles and tears.
Answer
This is seems to be a sort of a developmental delay and developing cerebral palsy. Since she has a twin delivery, it would be some sort of a brain insult at the time of birth especially if she was preterm and had low birth weight. As, she is eight months old, still some intervention can be tried in the form of physiotherapy and other environmental intervention for the spasticity and delayed milestones. You need to show her to a pediatrician and a physiotherpaist for the early intervention program. Also, her hearing and eye evaluation would be needed to check for associated hearing problem and refractive error respectively. Lot of patience is required.
