| Question : |
I have a 15 month old son
that has been diagnosed with shingles, with never having chicken
pox. He is not bothered by the blisters other than when he
sees them. Could he have a low immunity system or the vacine
not have taken in him?

Answer |
After having chickenpox, the chickenpox virus (varicella zoster) stays dormant in your body. In some children, it can become reactivated and cause shingles. Shingles (Herpes zoster) in children is not common. It occurs if the child has had chicken pox in the past. Sometimes the chicken pox may be subclinical and the child may first come with shingles. However if the blisters are wide spread or affecting a large area, underlying low immunity should be ruled out. |
