Question
Dear sir, my grandson 35 months old at present is suffering from Nephrotic Syndrome. He was on 30 mg oral Prednisone daily since last 30 days. Protein in his urine was negative in last week of the month. Doctor kept him on 20mg of oral Prednisone every alternate day since last week. Till the day before yesterday his Protein in urine was showing Negative when checked by dipstics. Today it is showing ++. What does it indicate? Should we start again daily Prednisone? Does it require any further test? His appetite has also decreased. Please advice us. We are much worried. Try to reply earliest. Thank you. Waiting for kind attention and reply
Answer
Does he have edema? If there is no edema, there is no need to increase the prednisolone back to every day. Just make sure that he does not have an infection as that could be the possible cause of the urine again becoming 2+. If she continues to have more than 3+ proteinuria, then you should consult your doctor to rule out possibility of an infection.
