My daughter is 6 yrs old and she started getting urinary tract infections when she was 5, she gets an infection at least three times a year. What if anything can I do to prevent these infections? And is there a more serious problem going on that is a result of these infections? Thanks in advance.
Answer
3 infections in a year is a little too frequent. She may need more investigations such as a sonography of the kidneys and the bladder to rule out any other defect. If it is suggestive of a reflux then she may need to be on long term low dose antibiotics. Consult a pediatrician for the same. Taking care of perineal hygiene would also go a long way to prevent UTI. Also giving her medication for worm infestation and ensuring proper motions will help to prevent local infection and so bladder infection too.
