| My son is having great difficulty with
behavior in school. He has been found to have above average
to high average intelligence, but it is lost with his behavior
and defiance. He frequently get detentions, causing him to
miss recess time and classes that he likes. I am encouraging
the school to stop the detentions -- he is there frequently
and it is devastating to his self- esteem. What better consequences
are there when he has misbehaved? I'm thinking acknowledging
the behavior, having him acknowledge it and apologize for
the actions and move on, get him to refocus on something new
that is positive. This punitive approach is not working. He
is ADHD and possibly bi-polar. |
