My niece is suffering from what is called
Trachea Malayasia. Doctor's say, that there is no medication
for this, but only time can heal. Is it really true? We are
very concerned |
Answer |
Tracheomalacia is a condition whereby the wind pipe is not well formed and as a result causes difficulty in breathing and may lead to breathlessness in the infant, coughing, recurrent lung infections and even cessation of breathing. Most of the times, the condition is an inherent condition, however, sometimes it may be seen in babies who have required ventilatory care in the newborn period. Most of the patients recover by the age of 18 to 24 months and require no treatment. Others may require treatment in the form of humidified air, oxygen and chest physiotherapy depending upon the severity of the disorder. If the child has problems such as repeated cessation of breathing, then surgery may be required. |
