Question
My son aged 7 yrs started developing rashes some 6 months back on his hands and legs. Initially there were 2 to 3 on his hands and later it developed in his legs also. The doctor initially suggested its insect bite and gave some ointment to apply. The rashes then started getting opened up as the child scratched it and started getting wet. Then he was shown to a skin specialist who suggested that as his grandmother has asthma it could be a variant of that and gave liquid paraffin to apply, as the weather out here is dry and a cortisone ointment to apply for 10 days. The rashes came under control after this treatment. But after we stopped the cortisone ointment it again started appearing on the same points as small puss points all over the rash area. What is this problem and what is the permanent cure to it?
Answer
The rash could be some sort of allergic problem such as allergic dermatitis. Since he responded to cortisone cream , allergic condition seems likely and treatment would require antihistaminics and steroids.
