Question
7 yr old child had chickenpox and younger sib is 11 months age, should this sib to be vaccinated immediately, though mother had chickenpox at her early life? I advised isolation and keep close observation on this sib that if he gets the similar lesion report in view to start acyclovir. I have already started acyclovir to pt. need any more suggestion,
Answer
Varicella vaccine is not recommended below 15 months of age. She may be given varicella immunoglobulin (VZIG) that is now available. It should be given within 72-96 hours of exposure. One may wait and watch and give the option of acyclovir if she develops chicken pox.
