Question
The granddaughter of age 2 of a friend of mine has a lead poisoning level of 16. Could you send me information of how serious this level is.
Answer
Blood levels between 10 to 16mcg / dl should be confirmed before classifying a child as having lead poisoning. Blood levels of 10-19mcg / dl are said to have mild lead poisoning. There is no direct correlation between blood lead levels and clinical manifestations. Children with blood levels over 100mcg / dl may occasionally appear clinically well and children with lower blood levels may be symptomatic. For asymptomatic children with blood lead levels between 10-19mcg/dl, no treatment is required.
