Question
Hi! I would like to thank you for the responses to me earlier queries. My daughter is now 21 months old. She is a very picky eater. In fact mealtimes are always a issue. She just does not eat. - I have tried my hand at several recipes, interesting foods etc. but to no luck. She currently weighs 9.5 kg which is barely on the weight chart. Her doctor says that there is no cause for worry, but I am still very concerned. Is their any medicine/tonic I can give her? Her activity levels are otherwise normal. Can you also tell me what is the average height, weight, head circumference for babies at her age? The charts that I see are mainly from overseas not meant for Indian babies .
Answer
First and foremost let me ask you at what age did you start introducing adult food in your child's diet. It is a well known fact that if children are started on weaning foods late, then by that time they have developed their own preferences and it is very difficult to make them try various foods. They then become what is called as "FUSSY EATER". Some babies also are inborn fussy eaters having a temperament right from day 1 of life. You need not worry about the same as long as your child is playful, active. Rather than appropriate weight, height what is important is the height velocity and the growth velocity. If your child is in the proper curve then there is no need to worry.
