Question
If a child, who is on valproate therapy for his seizures develops jaundice, should one need to stop valproate immediately? (and then which antiepileptic drug to start?) What if this jaundice is infective hepatitis only? One may not be able to afford hepatitis serology diagnosis. How to proceed?
Answer
One may need to stop the valproate and give other anticonvulsants if the child has jaundice. One must take it as drug induced hepatitis until and unless proved otherwise.
