Question
My 15-month-old daughter has low T3,normal T4 and hypotonia, growth hormone deficiency, diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism thathas been slightly under treated all along, as well as seizures, and global developmental delay, but is improving. My question is how can under treated hypothyroidism effect my daughter? What is the worst case scenario will she walk, talk, or do I have to wait and see? Can you help me understand?
Answer
Congenital hypothyroidism can cause developmental delay. The amount of delay depends on the time of diagnosis of hypothyroidism and when the therapy was started. It is very crucial in a congenital hypothyroidism to start therapy as early as possible as delay in starting may lead to permanent neurological problem.
