Question
My daughter 3yrs 4 months old... she was born in Kuwait. She has not taken BCG till now... before joining school they give BCG injection. She went for medical they gave her injection for TUBERCULIN SENSITIVITY TEST and asked to come after 72 hrs. Later they gave her MMR injection and I’m worried why they haven't given her BCG yet. Her next vaccination is 26/4. Please advice.child,
Answer
BCG is usually given at birth in countries having a large incidence of TB. If not given at birth, a Mantoux test should be done before she is given BCG. If positive, it suggests that the child has already had contact with the TB germs and so BCG vaccine would not be useful now. If negative, she needs to be vaccinated with BCG.
