My son is three years old now. He was born with a lump on his head. MRI showed his left third ventricle was enlarged. He was referred to a neurologist. The neurologist said that he needed a shunt. I was so depressed. The way he explained to us as if my son is a machine and to do surgery at 3 days of life and that shunt is the best way with no other alternatives. We decided to take a second and third opinion. I should say I am glad we did that. My son is ok, his head is not growing bigger and is within the normal range. We only removed the lump. Yes of course, he has problem with his eyesight coz of squint, delay in a few things but he's catching up. My advice is to take a second and third opinion before we make a decision.
