When I opened your website I felt I had to submit our story. The first letter that appeared on your site, spoke of a 9 year old hockey player. His mother was concerned about his feet turning bright red after an hour of on ice training. It just hit home!
This past February, my 13 year old daughter who has been skating for 8 years had to be hospitalized for 8 days. Her left foot had turned a strange color of bluish-purple and 2 of her toes showed little to no pulse. After 4 days of thinking that there was a real chance she might lose the 2 toes, she was finally diagnosed as Raynaud's disorder. Luckily, we were put in touch with a wonderful doctor, and to make a long story short, she is back on the ice doing what she loves to do with the help of a medication called cardizem. I cannot begin to tell you how terrifying those 8 days were, but, I can tell you that I am very glad that we pushed for a diagnosis rather than wait like some suggested. At this point now, my daughter has returned to her training (with some minor adjustments), and is hoping to return to the Jr. Nationals for a 4th year!
To the hockey mom, please get in touch with the Raynaud's association and locate a doctor near you. And good luck to your son!
