Pirbuterol

Mechanism :

Beta-2 receptor agonist with some beta-1 activity.


Indication :

  • Asthma Maintenance Treatment

Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity to pirbuterol or any of its components.


Dosing :

<12 years:
Safety and efficacy not established.
>12 years:
1-2 puffs (Each puff-200 mcg) 4-6 hourly; not to exceed 12 puffs/day.

Adverse Effect :

Nervousness, restlessness, hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, tremors, palpitations, tachycardia, cough, headache, dizziness, light headedness, taste changes, vomiting, nausea, paradoxical bronchospasm.


Interaction :

Tricyclic antidepressants: Tricyclic antidepressants increase or decrease effects of sympathomimetics.
Linezolid: Increases effects of pirbuterol by pharmacodynamic synergism.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
