Natamycin

Mechanism :

Natamycin is a macrolide antibiotic with antifungal properties. It is used to treat fungal infections of the eye.


Indication :

  • Fungal conjunctivitis
  • Blepharitis
  • Keratitis

Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity.


Dosing :

Safety and efficacy not established in children.
1 drop (0.5% w/v) is instilled in each eye 1-2 hourly.

Adverse Effect :

Hypersensitivity (conjunctival chemosis, hyperemia), ocular irritation.


Interaction :

None.



Hepatic Dose :

No dose adjustments are recommended.
