Permethrin
Mechanism :
Permethrin is a topical scabicidal agent for the treatment of infestation with Sarcoptes scabiei (scabies).
Indication :
Contraindications :
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components, to any synthetic pyrethroid or pyrethrin. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use on broken or secondarily infected skin.
Dosing :
Use in children older than 2 months of age.
Scabies:
Cream (5%) to be applied from head to toe, leave on for 8-14 hours and then rinse. Single application is curative but may reapply in 14 days if live mites reappear.
Pediculosis:
Apply lotion (1% to washed hair, leave on for 10 mins, rinse. Comb out nits and eggs. Single application is curative but may reapply in 7 days if lice or nits still present.
Adverse Effect :
Burning and stinging, pruritus, erythema, numbness, tingling, and rash.
Interaction :
There are no known drug interactions for permethrin topical.
Hepatic Dose :
No dose adjustment recommended.
