Synonym :

Pralidoxime


Indication :

  • Antidote for the treatment of pesticides and chemicals poisoning (e.g., nerve agents) of the organophosphate class which have anticholinesterase activity.
  • Control of overdosage by anticholinesterase drugs used for myasthenia gravis treatment.

Dosing :

20-40 mg/kg IV/IM dissolved in 30-50 ml of normal saline over 30 minutes once a day till symptoms subside. Can be repeated in 1-2 hours if muscle weakness is not relieved. When symptoms subside it can be administered twice a day.


Adverse Effect :

Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, seizure, visual disturbances, tachycardia, hyperventilation, muscle weakness, nausea, hypertension, pain at injection site.

Fatal: Rapid administration causes tachycardia, laryngospasm and rigidity and large doses cause neuromuscular blockade.


Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
