Carbocisteine

Mechanism :

Carbocisteine is a mucolytic.
Absorption: Rapidly and well absorbed from the GI tract after oral admin.
Distribution: Penetrates into lung tissue and respiratory mucus.
Excretion: Excreted in the urine as unchanged drug and metabolites.


Indication :

  • Mucolytic agent

Contraindications :

People who are allergic (hypersensitive) to carbocisteine or any of the other ingredients

People with an active stomach (peptic) ulcer

Children under 2 years old.


Dosing :

Oral: 2-5 years:
200-500 mg daily in 2-4 divided doses.
6-12 years:
300-750 mg daily in 3 divided doses.

Adverse Effect :

Rash, itching, dizziness, angioedema, gastric discomfort, GI bleeding.


Interaction :

No significant interactions found.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
