Diloxanide Furoate

Mechanism :

Diloxanide is an anti-protozoal drug with unknown mechanism of action. It acts against the trophozoites in the intestine and have no extraintestinal manifestations.


Indication :

  • Amoebiasis

Contraindications :

Known hypersensitivity to diloxanide furoate is a contraindication for its use.


Dosing :

>25 kg:
Oral, 20 mg/kg per day in three divided doses for 10 days.

Adverse Effect :

Known hypersensitivity to diloxanide furoate is a contraindication for its use.

Flatulence, occasional nausea, vomiting, urticaria and pruritus may occur.


Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
