DPT/Hib Conjugate Combination Vaccine
Mechanism :
It is given as an immunoprophylaxis against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and H. influenzae type B.
Indication :
- Active immunization of children 15-18 months of age against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and invasive disease caused by H. influenza type B.
Contraindications :
Precautions to further DPT vaccination:
Fever more than 40 degree Celsius within 48 hours of administration of the injection.
Hyporesponsiveness and shock-like state within 48 hours.
Convulsions occurring within 72 hours.
Inconsolable crying (more than 3 hours) within 48 hours.
Anaphylaxis or encephalopathy occurring within 7 days (absolute contraindication)
Dosing :
0.5 ml IM in the anterolateral aspect of the thigh at 2, 4 and 6 months of age. Booster dose at 18 months and 5 years.
Adverse Effect :
Erythema, induration at the injection site, fever and drowsiness.
Interaction :
If DTP and TIG or Diphtheria Antitoxin are administered concurrently, separate syringes and separate sites should be used.
Immunosuppressive therapies, including irradiation, antimetabolites, alkylating agents, cytotoxic drugs, and corticosteroids (used in greater than physiologic doses), may reduce the immune response to vaccines. Short-term (< 2 weeks) corticosteroid therapy or intra-articular, bursal, or tendon injections with corticosteroids should not be immunosuppressive. Although no specific studies with pertussis vaccine are available, if immunosuppressive therapy will be discontinued shortly, it is reasonable to defer vaccination until the patient has been off therapy for one month; otherwise, the patient should be vaccinated while still on therapy.
Hepatic Dose :
No dosage adjustments are recommended.
