Mequinol/Tretinoin

Mechanism :

Mequinol is a depigmenting agent.
Tretinoin may repair skin damage due to UV radiation.


Indication :

  • Acne Vulgaris

Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity, Pregnancy, women of childbearing potential.


Dosing :

<12 years old:
Safety & efficacy not established.
>12 years old:
Apply (2%/0.01%) to affected area at bedtime or evening.

Adverse Effect :

Erythema, peeling of skin, pruritus, hypopigmentation, burning, stinging sensation of skin, application site reaction, phototoxicity.


Interaction :

Tetracycline, Doxycycline: Either increases toxicity of the other by unspecified interaction mechanism. Both tretinoin and tetracyclines can cause increased intracranial pressure.



Hepatic Dose :

It has been recommended if hepatic enzymes increase to > 5-times the upper limit of normal, consideration should be given to temporarily discontinuing oral tretinoin therapy.
