Propylhexedrine

Mechanism :

Cycloalkylamine; alpha adrenergic agonist; stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in nasal conjunctiva and arterioles to produce vasoconstriction that results in nasal decongestion.


Indication :

  • Nasal Congestion

Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity to propylhexedrine or any component of the formulation.


Dosing :

6-12 years:
Two inhalations (Each inhalation is 250 mg) in each nostril, not more frequently than every 2 hours for 3 days.

Adverse Effect :

Local nasal burning, stinging, sneezing, increased nasal discharge.


Interaction :

Alpha1-Blockers: May diminish the vasoconstricting effect of Alpha1-Agonists.
Ergot Derivatives: May enhance the hypertensive effect of Alpha1-Agonists.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors: May enhance the hypertensive effect of Alpha1-Agonists.
Tricyclic Antidepressants: May enhance the vasopressor effect of Alpha1-Agonists.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
