Simethicone
Mechanism :
Simethicone is an anti-flatulence agent that acts by defoaming the gastric juice and thus, prevents the gas formation. It is used to treat post-operative gastrointestinal disorders, peptic ulcer and irritable bowel syndrome.
Indication :
Contraindications :
Hypersensitivity to simethicone.
Dosing :
Give PO every 6 hours after meals and at bedtime.
<2 years: 20 mg/dose; do not exceed 240 mg/day.
2-12 years: 40 mg/dose; do not exceed 480 mg/day.
>12 years: 40-125 mg/dose; not to exceed 500 mg/day.
Adverse Effect :
Dysphagia, melena, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, eructation.

Hepatic Dose :
No dose adjustment recommended.
