Amodiaquine

Mechanism :

Amodiaquine is a histamine N-methyltransferase inhibitor.


Indication :

  • Malaria

Contraindications :

Severe liver impairment and hypersensitivity.


Dosing :

10 mg base/kg OD x 3 days combined with primaquine for chloroquine-resistant vivax malaria.

Adverse Effect :

Severe liver impairment and hypersensitivity.

Nausea, vomiting, itching, gastritis, headache, loss of vision, skin rash, muscle pain, loss of hearing and greying of hair.


Hepatic Dose :

Elevation of serum aminotransferases has been reported. Idiosyncratic acute liver injury can occur on treatment. It is avoided in patients with hepatic impairment.
