Bezafibrate

Mechanism :

Bezafibrate is a lipid lowering drug.


Indication :

• Hypercholesterolemia

• Dyslipidemia


Contraindications :

Renal and hepatic dysfunction, and gall bladder disease.


Dosing :

Oral: 200 mg/day in adolescents. Very limited use in children.


Adverse Effect :

Gastrointestinal, nausea, anorexia, gastric pain; headache, pruritus, urticaria, myopathy.


Interaction :

Warfarin: Enhanced effect.
HMG-COA Reductase Inhibitors: Increased risk of rhabdomyolysis.
Bile Acid Sequestrants: Elevation in liver enzymes.
