Roxithromycin
Mechanism :
It is a macrolide bacteriostatic antibiotic with activity against most gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. It is used in the treatment of certain respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis) and urinary tract infections.
Indication :
- Treatment of respiratory, urinary and soft tissue infections.
Dosing :
8-10 mg/kg/day PO in 2 divided doses.
Adverse Effect :
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes and rarely, rashes.
Interaction :
Cyclosporine: The macrolide, roxithromycin, may increase the effect of cyclosporine.
Hepatic Dose :
Severe hepatic impairment: Give half the dose
