Brief Staring Spells + Humming in a 10-Year-Old Boy | Spot the Diagnosis
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/aqCVA5J2eVQ/mqdefault.jpg

Not all “blank staring” in children is absence epilepsy. A previously healthy 10-year-old boy has had multiple daily staring episodes for the last few months, with a humming noise and an inability to continue what he was doing. Each episode lasts less than a minute. He recovers abruptly and has no memory of the events. There are no falls, no body stiffening, no abdominal “funny feeling” or taste sensation, and no headache. His neurological and ophthalmological examinations are normal. 🧠
