Digoxin Binding Antibody

Mechanism :

Digoxin binding antibodies are antigen binding fragments (Fab) derived from specific anti-digoxin antibodies raised in sheep. It binds molecules of digoxin, making them unavailable for binding at their site of action on cells in the body. The Fab fragment-digoxin complex accumulates in the blood, from which it is excreted by the kidney. Digoxin therapy can be restarted after 3-7 days after correction of toxicity.


Indication :

  • Digoxin toxicity
  • Digitoxin toxicity

Contraindications :

There are no known contraindications to the use of digoxin binding antibodies.


Dosing :

No of vials (IV) = Digoxin level (ng/ml) x Weight in kg/100

Adverse Effect :

Hypokalemia.


Interaction :

They interfere with standard glycoside assay procedures.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
