Diiodohydroxyquin
 Mechanism : 
It is an anti-protozoal agent active against E. histolytica, D. fragilis and G. lamblia and is considered effective against the trophozoite and cyst forms.
 Indication : 
 Contraindications : 
Hypersensitivity to any 8-hydroxy-quinoline or iodine-containing preparations, hepatic damage and pre-existing optic neuropathy.
Dosing : 
25-50 mg/kg/day PO divided into 3 daily doses for 20 days. Not to exceed 2 g/day.
 Adverse Effect : 
Skin eruptions, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, pruritus ani, fever, chills, headache, vertigo, enlargement of thyroid, optic neuritis, optic atrophy, peripheral neuropathy.
 Interaction : 
Thyroid Function Tests: Protein-bound serum iodine levels may be increased during treatment and therefore interfere with certain thyroid function tests. These effects may persist for as long as 6 months after discontinuation of therapy. Discontinue the drug if hypersensitivity reactions occur.
 Hepatic Dose : 
No dosage adjustments are recommended.
