Pyrantel Pamoate

Mechanism :

It is an anthelmintic drug used in treatment of worm infestations like hookworm, roundworm, threadworm and pinworm. It causes paralysis of the worms and expulsion of the worms.


Indication :

  • Enterobiasis
  • Hookworm Infection (Necator or Ancylostoma)
  • Ascariasis
  • Trichostrongylosis
  • Moniliformis Infection

Contraindications :

Allergic to any ingredient in pyrantel pamoate

Liver problems


Dosing :

Enterobiasis, Ascariasis, Trichostrongylosis, Moniliformis Infection:
≥2 years:
11 mg/kg base (Maximum 1 g) once daily. Repeat dose in 2 weeks for Enterobiasis. Repeat dose twice at 2 weeks intervals for Moniliformis Infection.
Hookworm Infection (Necator or Ancylostoma):
≥2 years:
11 mg/kg base (Maximum 1 g) orally daily for 3 days.

Adverse Effect :

Headache, dizziness and other GI disturbances.

Sodium Iodide (I123) 100-750 MBq (sodium iodide i-123)
Hicon (sodium iodide-i-131)
Iodotope (sodium iodide-i-131)

Hepatic Dose :

Dose adjustment may be required, use with caution.
