What are the guidelines for breastfeeding for a newborn baby of a mother with jaundice?

Jaundice in the mother is not a contraindication for breastfeeding currently.

This depends on the cause of maternal jaundice. If mother has hepatitis B or C, this is not a contraindication to breast feed. However, if mum has cracked or bleeding nipples then she has to stop breast feeding until healing.
If maternal jaundice is due to haemolytic or biliary tree obstruction, she can still breast feed unless she is too unwell to do so.
