Antiviral drugs are a class of medication used specifically for treating viral infections. Viruses replicate by using the host cells. Thus eradication of viruses may also lead to loss of infected cells. Various antivirals are available based on mechanism. Prevent virus entry into the cell. Inhibits the viral genome replication are Acyclovir, valacyclovir,famciclovir,penciclovir,Ganciclovir,Cidofovir,AZT,3TC,ABC,NVP,EFV,Foscarnet,Ribavirin,Adefovir and Entecavir. Antivirals used in hospitalized patients are acyclovir, ganciclovir/valganciclovir, cidofovir, oseltamivir, and ribavirin. Clinical use of antiviral drugs in hospitalized patients and Adverse effects of antiviral drugs.
