Is it necessary to do a spinal MRI for children with a sacral sinus tract and what can I tell parents about their child?

Expert Answer :
For a child less than three months of age, a sacral ultrasound is sufficient. Older child with abnormal Neuro exam or meningitis needs an MRI. A tract may signify underlying spinal dysraphism. Patent tract may cause recurrent meningitis.
