Butenafine
Mechanism :
Butenafine is a member of the class of antifungal compounds known as benzylamines which are structurally related to the allylamines.
Indication :
- Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor due to M. furfur (formerly P. orbiculare)
- Interdigital tinea pedis (athlete’s foot)
- Tinea corporis (ringworm) and tinea cruris (jock itch) due to E. floccosum, T. mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, and T. tonsurans.
Contraindications :
Contraindicated in individuals who have known or suspected sensitivity to butenafine or any of its components.
Dosing :
Topical 1% cream
<12 years: Safety and efficacy has not been established.
>12 years: Dosage is same as adults
Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor:
Apply once daily for 2 weeks.
Interdigital tinea pedis:
Apply twice daily for 7 days OR once daily for 4 weeks (Not to exceed 4 weeks).
Tinea corporis or tinea cruris:
Apply once/twice daily for at least 1 week.
Adverse Effect :
Burning/stinging, erythema, irritation, itching.
Interaction :
No significant interactions have been documented.
Hepatic Dose :
No dosage adjustments are recommended.
