Framycetin Sulphate

Mechanism :

It is a topical aminoglycoside. Framycetin works by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of t-RNA, leaving the bacterium unable to synthesize proteins vital to its growth.


Indication :

• Bacterial conjunctivitis, bacterial blepharitis, corneal ulcers, corneal injuries.

• Prophylaxis of ocular infections following foreign body removal.

• ENT infections and burns and scalds.

• Otitis externa


Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity.

Framycetin Sulphate is contraindicated in conditions like Tuberculosis, Viral eye infection, Glaucoma.


Dosing :

Available as ophthalmic solution and cream.

Ophthalmic/Otic drop: 1-2 drops 3-4 times daily. Ointment: Application at bedtime.


Adverse Effect :

Inflammation, irritation, contact dermatitis, burning sensation, stinging, pruritus, ototoxicity, GI symptoms.
