Oxazepam
Mechanism :
It is a benzodiazepine and works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical GABA in the body.
Indication :
- Anxiety
- Acute alcohol withdrawal
Contraindications :
It is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to the potential for fetal harm. It may pass into breast milk. Therefore, breast-feeding while using this medication is not recommended.
Dosing :
In children above 12 years, given orally.
Mild-to-moderate anxiety:
10 to 15 mg, thrice daily.
Severe anxiety syndromes:
15 to 30 mg, thrice daily.
Adverse Effect :
Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or headache may occur. Mental/mood changes, slurred speech, clumsiness, trouble walking, tremor, trouble urinating, sleep disturbances. Fainting, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea, vomiting, fatigue, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent sore throat or fever can also occur. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
Interaction :
Sodium Oxybate: Not to be used with sodium oxybate.
