Does hyperuricemia occur as acomplication in hereditary spherocytosis
A patient 14 yr old with hereditary spherocytosis presented with arthritis involving knee and ankles His serum uricacid is 7.4mg Ishe to be started on allopurinol

Expert Answer :
Through hemolysis, increased uric acid can occur. If the uric acid is the cause of the pain in knees and ankles, one may have to treat it.

hyperuricemia should not be considered as cause of arthritis unless joint fluid is tested for Crystals of mono sodium urate
