Oxiconazole
Mechanism :
Oxiconazole nitrate is an imidazole derivative whose antifungal activity is derived primarily from the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis, which is critical for cellular membrane integrity. It has in vitro activity against a wide range of pathogenic fungi such as Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Malassezia furfur.
Indication :
Contraindications :
Oxiconazole contraindicated in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to any of their components.
Dosing :
Available as 1% cream, lotion.
Apply once or twice every day to affected area.
For athlete’s foot: 1 month treatment.
Jock itch, ringworm, tinea versicolor: 2 weeks treatment.
Adverse Effect :
Oxiconazole contraindicated in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to any of their components.
Allergic skin inflammation, pruritus, burning, cracks in the skin, raised skin eruptions similar to those of chickenpox.
Hepatic Dose :
No dosage adjustments are recommended.
