Metaxalone
Mechanism :
Metaxalone is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) in the brain.
Indication :
- Muscle spasm
- Systemic sclerosis
- Cardiac allograft rejection
Contraindications :
Hypersensitivity to drug/class/component, Anaemia.
Dosing :
Muscle spasm: 12 years or above: 800 mg orally for 3 to 4 times a day. Give on empty stomach.
Adverse Effect :
Common Reactions: Drowsiness, somnolence, dizziness, headache, nervousness, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia.
Serious Reactions: Hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, anaphylaxis.
Interaction :
Triprolidine: The CNS depressants, Triprolidine and Metaxalone, may increase adverse/toxic effects due to additivity. Monitor for increased CNS depressant effects during concomitant therapy.
Hepatic Dose :
Mild to moderate hepatic impairment: Use with caution. Monitor with serial liver function tests (LFTs).
Severe hepatic impairment: Use is contraindicated.
