Ketotifen

Mechanism :

Ketotifen is a relatively selective, non-competitive histamine antagonist (H1-receptor) and mast cell stabilizer. Ketotifen inhibits the release of mediators from cells involved in hypersensitivity reactions. Decreased chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils has also been demonstrated.


Indication :

  • Prevention of itching of the eye due to allergic conjunctivitis

Contraindications :

Contraindicated in persons with a known hypersensitivity to any component of this product.


Dosing :

Available as 0.025% ophthalmic drops.
Under 3 years:
Safety and efficacy not established
Above 3 years:
1 drop in the affected eye 2-3 times a day.

Adverse Effect :

Conjunctival infection, headaches, rhinitis, burning or stinging, itching, allergic reactions, eye pain, discharge, dry eyes, photophobia, eyelid disorder, keratitis, lacrimation disorder, mydriasis, conjunctivitis, rash, flu syndrome, pharyngitis.

Hepatic Dose :

No dose adjustments are recommended.
